- Attracts visitors from throughout the world
- Shows the entire process chain of the beverage and liquid food industry
- Is the premier platform for global innovations
- Has the highest growth rates in the field of wine and liquor
The global trading volume of wine has grown by 5 percent to almost 28 billion litres from 2009 till 2014. Of these, 42 percent were sold in Western Europe. This is followed by Asia with 22 percent, North America with 13 percent, 11 percent in Eastern Europe, 7 percent in Latin America. In Africa / Middle East, the proportion is 3 percent.
According to the market research institute Euromonitor, the global sales of wine will increase by a further 9 percent by 2019. Most of this consumption growth will take place in the regions where per head consumption is still low at the moment. As a result, sales will grow particularly in Asia, the second strongest region even today, with consumption rising by 21 percent by 2019.
Sales in Latin America are also expected to grow in the two digit range. In North America as well as in Eastern Europe they are forecast to rise by 7 percent. In Western Europe, however, sales are expected to remain stable, since wine consumption in most Western European countries is already at a high level. The Top 10 list with the highest per capita consumption exclusively lists the Western European countries. In various countries of the Western Europe region further increases in total sales are expected, for example in Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. Stagnation - although at a high level - is predicted for France, and a slight decline is expected in Germany and in Italy.
On a global scale the prospects for future wine sales are positive. New consumer groups are being gained, especially in Asia.
A growth in wine consumption is taking place primarily in emerging countries. Higher disposable income and changing consumption patterns generate an increasing popularity of wine.

Statements about the Cooperation
Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Managing Director at Messe München: "I am very pleased that we have reached an agreement. Both trade fairs will benefit from it. The exhibitors at drinktec, of which almost half also offer solutions for the wine industry, will have access to even more potential customers as a result of the integration of SIMEI. Vice versa, too, the international scope of drinktec will benefit the SIMEI exhibitors. And not least, this agreement also strengthens the status of Munich as a top location for trade fairs."
Richard Clemens, Managing Director of the VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association: "The technology already showcased at drinktec for the wine indus-try will now be superbly supplemented by this cooperation with SIMEI. For drinktec exhibitors there will be additional visitor potential from strong wine-growing countries—above all Italy. In addition the cooperation also offers significant added value to visitors from emerging wine-growing countries, thanks to a more in-depth spectrum of products and services."
