Sweetening Concepts
Trends related to sweetening
In Forum 1, Hall A2 Beneo-Palatinit and Tate & Lyle will be presenting special sweetening concepts, their properties and applications in beverages from 14 to 19 September:

BENEO-Palatinit
BENEO-Palatinit will present the low glycemic carbohydrate Palatinose™ during drinktec 2009.
The disaccharide Palatinose™ (isomaltulose) breaks the boundaries in terms of sweeteners and functional ingredients. Derived exclusively from pure beet sugar, it is the only known fully digestible but slowly released carbohydrate with a low glycemic effect.
Although it provides the same amount of energy as sucrose, Palatinose™ is broken down and fully absorbed over a longer period of time. Strong fluctuations in blood glucose levels and a high insulin secretion can thus be avoided. The result: A steady and prolonged energy supply in form of glucose. Moreover, Palatinose™ promotes fat oxidation.
With a sweetening profile that closely resembles that of sugar and about half of its sweetening power, Palatinose™ is mainly suitable as functional sweetening component in sports- and wellness beverages. Depending on the product concept, every desired sweetness level can be achieved by combining Palatinose™ with other sweeteners.
During drinktec 2009, BENEO-Palatinit will explain the nutritional advantages of Palatinose™ and give an overview of latest scientific studies as well as application possibilities.

TATE & LYLE
TATE & LYLE offers a wide portfolio of sweeteners, from sugar over maize based sweeteners like glucose, fructose, maltodextrins and dextrose, to SPLENDA® Sucralose.
The brand-new Health & Wellness Innovation Centre in Lille, France, has a Beverage pilot application area for project work with customers and it is also Tate & Lyle’s centre of excellence for the development of applications for SPLENDA® Sucralose.
During drinktec 2009 TATE & LYLE will launch a new series of refreshing beverage prototypes from its OPTIMIZE™ platform, a formulation service that addresses cost pressure on customer’s recipes with no compromise on taste.
TATE & LYLE will also demonstrate with new ENRICH™ prototypes how its sweetening solutions can help to improve taste of beverages with enhanced nutritional benefits.
